Score!

I love a good bargain, I really do. I hate to call myself cheap, but lets face it, I am. I just got my hands on a baby bath for $1 at a garage sale - a baby bath that normally costs $25 and is in really good condition! Talk about being stoked! This particular bath is no longer available in stores, but it was last year... I can remember looking at it not too long ago, plus the people I bought it from still had a baby, so they must not have gotten it that long ago. It's the Safety First Froggy Bath - I got the tub and the froggy sling part for the baby, but the toys weren't included. I think I'll survive.

Exciting stuff! I also found a few 0-3 month onsies for $0.50 that had never been worn. You can't go wrong with that! All-in-all, I spent $3.25.

Now there are a lot of baby items I would never buy used, such as the carset, stroller, pack n' play, bedding, bottles, etc., but there are other items, such as the tub, that I have no problem buying used. They're used for such a short period of time and the general design of such items don't change much with time...

Now I have a little gripe about garage sales... It's our annual garage sale day in Georgetown (the neighborhood where I live), so I went to quite a few today. Most of the ones that had baby stuff had absolutely disgusting baby clothes! I'm sorry, but if an outfit is stained beyond the point of repair, it's time to call it a loss and get rid of it. No one is going to buy it, even for $0.25 or $0.50 if it's tattered or stained. I will only buy them if they are like-new and cheap. There were other sales that wanted like $5 each! Um, no. It's a garage sale, I'm not giving you $5 for a onsie. A really nice complete outfit that is like-new, perhaps. But a onsie, no.

I probably would have bought a ton more today, but since we don't know the gender it's a little difficult unless I want a boy in pink or a girl in blue. lol. There was very little in gender neutral colors, but what little there was, I bought. (c:

Anyway, I guess you all want to hear about my doctors appointment now!

The baby is doing great and measuring right on for 19 weeks. His/her heartbeat was 140, but who really knows how accurate that is since the little swimmer was all over the place and she could hardly keep track of where he/she was moving! lol. Enjoy the room while you've got it baby! Your days are numbered...

I've gained 9 pounds so far according to the doctors scale, which is right where I should be. She seemed pleasantly surprised. I guess she's just happy I didn't go on a DQ bender and gain 25 pounds already. hahaha.

Unfortunately, I was unable to get an ultrasound yesterday to determine the gender... My doctor said she would have done it, but she got stuck at the hospital in the morning and ended up being quite late to our appointment and was running behind on her other appointments for the day. Damn. If only she hadn't got stuck at the hospital! She would have been able to do it!! *sigh* Oh well... She's going to do another one on June 15 for my next appointment, but she made it very clear that she will "try" and can't guarantee anything. She isn't an x-ray tech, so what can we really expect? Sometimes it's hard to tell whether it's a boy or girl unless you get a very clear shot, so I guess if she can't get that, then we'll be having a surprise baby. And that's fine, I'll just need to change my plans for the nursery a bit, but it's not like I have any set plans as it is, so no biggie. I figure if that's the case then we'll pick out one set of boy bedding and one set of girl bedding and buy both shortly before the baby is born. I'll make sure both sets have a color or two in common so that I can paint the room based on those colors... Then we'll just wait for baby to get here to finish setting up and we'll return the bedding that we don't need. And who knows, maybe I'll even find a bedding set that will work for a boy or a girl that I like. There aren't many, and most are jungle or monkey or frog themed (which I am not interested in whatsoever), but there are some cute ones out there.

This may sound weird, but by this point it almost seems as though we're meant to have a surprise baby. Our attempts to find out the gender keep getting thwarted, and while I thought I would be disappointed, I am not. In fact, it's actually kind of exciting. So it makes me wonder if we're better off not finding out. We'll give it one more go in June, but if we can't find out then then I will not be pressing for any more ultrasounds to try and find out.

Well, I suppose that's all for now. With Jer gone all this week I think I'm going to focus on getting the nursery completely cleaned out and ready to be painted. Yay. Take care!

My next appointment is on June 15 at 3 p.m.

  2. I love garage sales too. In fact, I think Bryce has clothes until he is five years old! Nothing wrong with that!!
